What is Post-COVID or Long COVID?

The name 'Long COVID' was created early in the pandemic by people experiencing persistent symptoms after a SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) infection. It has several other names. For example, the World Health Organization (WHO), also calls Long COVID 'post COVID-19 condition', or PCC. In this MyGuide, we use 'Long COVID'.

Long COVID also has many definitions developed by organizations worldwide. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) defines Long COVID as 'an infection-associated chronic condition that occurs after SARS-CoV-2 infection and is present for at least 3 months as a continuous, relapsing and remitting, or progressive disease state that affects one or more organ systems.'
